By Lizbeth Kariuki East Africa is guaranteed to leave its mark in the fashion world, as preparations are in full swing for East Africa Fashion Week. Fashion designers, models and fashion aficionados are gearing up for the event which is scheduled to be held from May 8th -10th May in Nairobi, Kenya. The festivities kick off with a pre party on May 8th at Galileo Xtreeme, and on 9th May the public and fashion enthusiasts are welcome to a free exhibition at Bomb-blast Memorial Park. “We want as many people to come,” mentioned Nic Odhiambo, Managing Director of Knitwear Models and organizer of the event. The luxurious Boma Hotel will be playing host to the culmination of one of the largest fashion shows this side of the continent. On 10th May you can make your way to view models take to the runway adorning creative garments by East Africa’s best designers. Entry into the fashion show is Ksh3000/-, and the dress code: nothing less than classy. Several designers will feature during the fashion show and they include: Sheila Amolo from Chico Leco and Vaishali Morjaria representing Kenya, iNZu representing Rwanda, Muganga representing Uganda and Loitare representing Seychelles, just to name but a few. Other designers from Burundi, Tanzania, and other African countries will be represented as well. Thus, it's not just limited to fashion designers from East Africa. The fashion week is in support of hunger victims in Turkana, Kenya. Therefore, 40% of the proceeds from the fashion show will be presented to The Red Cross. The public is also welcome to donate non-perishable foods and clothes to support the victims. Please see the poster for more details on how you can contribute as well as book your tickets. See you at the show Fab One’s.
