By Lizbeth Kariuki I love the Met Gala just for the fact that you can see celebrities wear avant garde fashion, that is costume-y, but also very interesting to look at for hours on end. And then you will always have the celebrities that miss the mark and go to far with the "costume" theme. The 2017 Met Gala theme was Japanese fashion designer Rei Kawakubo/Commes des Garcons. Below are my favorite looks of the night.

By Njeri Kariuki It is no secret that Nairobi women have an impeccable sense of style; and find it so easy to embrace the evolving fashion trends. It’s very easy for us to see something that we like on someone else, and embody that into our own personal style. The fashion pieces that are trending this March include: jumpsuits, gel nails, tunic style shirts as well as off-the-shoulder tops. With sample pieces from stylewe.com that fit the trends so perfectly. Jumpsuits: The jumpsuit is quickly making its way back into fashion from when it was trending back in the 1960s and 80s. They are extremely convenient pieces of fashion as the incorporate both trousers and a top into one piece. Evening jumpsuits can be dressed up for work and even for evening parties. For your comfort, jumpsuits can also be worn as lounge wear. And with the recent hot weather, a casual jumpsuit featuring an open back is something every woman should have in her closet. Gel nails Gel nails are an extremely natural looking type of cosmetic nails. They are even considered more environmentally friendly as they beneficially lack the fumes of nail varnish that I am sure we all dread. Almost every beauty parlour in Nairobi these days offers the application of gel nail polish. It is applied basically in the same way as typical nail polish, with the three coats: base coats, polish colour and top coat; and completed by drying under UV light exposure. These nails leave your fingers looking, slender, and lovely and they can lengthen shorter nails, if one wishes. They give better results than acrylic nails, with easier and safer removal methods. The only struggle is when trying to remove gel nails on your own, here’s a tutorial that can help https://blog.stylewe.com/how-to-remove-gel-nail-polish-at-home/ Tunic style tops: Tunics are loose-fitting tops inspired by the ancient Greece and Rome attire. Being longer than shirts but shorter than dresses, they are a fun way to dress up leggings, skinny jeans and even fitted skirts or shorts. They are becoming more and more popular as they offer comfort while exuding modernity and class. For example, JustFashionNow tunic style tops are perfect tunics that can be worn for a casual lunch date, especially in this hot weather, as they are airy and free but very pretty. Share! By Wini Nduta Your style is an expression of who you are. Sometimes it can be about how you are feeling on a particular day. But how can you access your personal style? What item of clothing do people see and automatically say this is so *insert your name here*! Well here is a list of 5 style personalities we can use to inspire our personal style: Vintage V Visualize 70’s fashion. Think flamboyant prints, bell bottoms and the ‘big hair don’t care’ type of flair. That's her inspiration. She loves how people expressed themselves at that time. You know, apart from racism and mistreatment of women. She loves getting dressed and doing her make up. High waist jeans and dresses that show off her waist are a staple in her closet. Eclectic E Hers is a mix and match type of style. She will borrow from different trends in fashion, be it the futuristic silver jacket with a white bohemian dress or the jet black leather jacket with tassels paired with a jeans skirt. She wears Masai sandals on a Monday and plimsoles with a glitter skull print on Sunday. Eclectic E looks like a new person each time you see her. On- trend O She dresses herself only with new stuff in the market. Best believe she has a faux fur coat that goes with everything. She doesn’t smile, smizing only. Hippy H This is a more relaxed but intentional look. Picture warm woolen sweaters, long beaded necklaces and loose fitting pants. She dresses for comfort because she focuses on spreading positive vibes. And trust under that Ankara turban, she has gorgeous healthy tresses. Tailored T She has her Pinterest updated almost every day with looks that she will show their tailor during the weekend. Tailored Ts always have an eye out for what looks good and how they can re-create it to suit their body type. When she opens her phone, we can bet her first Whatsapp chat is with her fundi. For style, it all comes down to being yourself. Embrace what you are drawn to. Trust me, once you love yourself, you will look good in anything you put on. Form your own style.
All pics courtesy of Pinterest. By Wini Nduta Okay, let’s start with her bio, Asa Soltan Rahmati is a Persian-American reality TV star, artist, and entrepreneur. She’s on Shahs of Sunset- it’s a show about this Persian group of friends and their lives in Los Angeles. Back to Asa, here is why she inspires me: 1. Her braid detail I love anyone with versatility in their hairstyle. It’s a form of expression anyway and we all have 1001 feelings, lol. 2. She embraces her curves We all need someone to look at who reminds us self-love is the best accessory you can wear with any outfit. 3. She loves the water and looks good doing it too 4. Her awesome sense of style I love her look here- the midi dress and body chain combo look so good. Follow her on Instagram for more of her looks. 5. Her accessories are on another level 6. Her eyebrows are always on fleek! 7. She’s a hustla! Asa is an entrepreneur running her online Kaftan store, see www.asasoltan.com/ She also sells her art. Her music is on iTunes, check it out. 8. She maintains her figure by sticking to her work-out schedule and eating anything she wants! Carbs, fruit and fish are her favorite according to her Instagram page. And how could I forget, cake! Who inspires you? By Lizbeth Kariuki Photos selected by Njeri Kariuki Our style star of the week is Zoe Kravitz - Daughter to rock star Lenny Kravtiz. She's our black indie star - after Solange Knowles of course. Here are some of her looks were loving: Thanks for stopping by Fab One's.
By Lizbeth Kariuki Pictures selected by Njeri Kariuki Our Fab Star of the week is Zendaya Coleman. It's hard to deny how hard this girl has been slaying whenever she hits the red carpet, or whenever she's just out and about.
As much as she is known for her role as a dancer in Disney's Shake it Up, she also stirred up quite a bit of attention after the 87th Annual Academy Awards this year. She attended the awards wearing a stunning white gown, but what made news were her luscious, long dreadlocks. You can read more on that story here from the Daily Mail UK. Here are more of her best looks: By Wini Nduta I am in love with my Tulle skirt. It's black and wonderful and I love it. I might just decide to put up pics of myself one day. The dictionary definition of a Tulle is a sheer often stiffened silk, rayon, or nylon net used chiefly for veils or ballet costumes Below is what a Tulle skirt looks like: Here is one skirt I am dreaming of. The red lips give it a Charlotte Olympia kinda feel to it. I'm in love! The skirts have links on them to my favorite online store, I ogle at their stuff every week. Sigh, one day my sweet we shall be together.
Drop us a comment, we would love to hear what your fave Tulle skirt is. By Lizbeth Kariuki I wish there was an outstanding moment that happened at this year's Grammy Awards. I felt like everything was just....there. Previous year's have seen Lady Gaga make a splash on the red carpet, or Miley Cyrus pop out tongue's (and other things). However, this year, our favorite music stars were slightly more low key than usual. Or what say you? Here are my favorite outfits from the red carpet last evening: My least favorite looks from the evening: Thanks for stopping by Fab One's.
By Lizbeth Kariuki The Golden Globes sizzled this year, I cannot lie. I almost couldn't hate on anyone - Perhaps I must have been in a really good mood when watching the red carpet that day. Either way, I noticed a lot of silver and metallic colors on ladies this year, and this is a trend I'm still half and half about. I liked the bold red's too (the ladies were definitely channeling Lupita '14) and the men looked pretty dapper too in their suits, of which navy blue was a trending color. Here are my fashion picks for the Globes. Thanks for stopping by Fab One's!
