By Wini Nduta To explain a flat twist out, I'll start with a twist- to take a section of the hair, divide it into two and then take the first section and wind it round the second. Did you get it? Now, for a flat twist out you work it like a cornrow except you are twisting not braiding The technique of getting fuller curls that last longer is to twist your hair while wet. You can also add some leave-in conditioner or whatever moisturizer you prefer.
The whole point of a flat twist out is to define your curls.

By Wini Nduta Contrary to popular belief your natural hair needs water. Badly. Whether open or in braid, your hair needs to be moisturized in order to stay healthy. Now, I'm not talking about the eight glasses of water a day here. Even though drinking water does help. I'm talking about spritzing a bit from your spray bottle onto your hair to keep it moisturized. Have you noticed that it is easier to comb your hair when it is wet? Natural hair is weak when dry, this is why when your hair is dry and you try to comb it, you will experience a lot of breakage. I wash my hair in the shower and use a wide toothed comb when de-tangling. I have less breakage now. One can tell by what is left on the comb after you comb your hair. Moisture can be in the form of water, oils or hair lotions or leave-in conditioners. It depends on what works best for your hair type. I use plain old water then apply some olive oil or castor oil to my scalp and edges.
People choose to add these oils into their spray bottle which I think is a great idea. It cuts down on application time. So moisturize your hair today. It will thank you! By Wini Nduta This is a term that describes styling your hair so that it is not affected by everyday elements. For the natural hair crowd this means putting your hair in twists, braids, weaves or under wigs. When you have your hair in a protective style, it's important to moisturize. Grab a spray bottle and fill it with boiled water and spritz a bit onto the hair. Many people plait their hair and forget that it still needs some tlc.
You can also add some oils to the bottle like olive oil, castor oil or jojoba oil to make your hair shiny. I tend to go for the natural liquid oils- they are easier for your scalp to absorb. It has been used in care of black hair for many years. I use it myself and I must say it is very effective as a clarifying wash. this means it gets rid of all the build-up on the hair shaft. It is close to the acidity of natural hair so it assists in the balancing of your hair's pH. I got the idea from my sister & went natural in November of last year. I must admit it is a learning process. There are so many aspects to it, one would think it's simple. One of the best things about ACV is that it gets rid of dandruff. though I must make it clear that dandruff is basically dry skin so moisturizing your scalp on the regular should deal with it. But because of many reasons like laziness or simple forgetfulness. ACV is readily available in any supermarket from Tuskys to Uchumi. I use the one above. This product is inexpensive and is multipurpose. You can use it for your hair, skin and even in your food. I use a spray bottle. Fill up to a quarter with acv and the rest with boiled water and spritz away. Also, it has a strong smell but it disappears once it evaporates. . .and one gets used to it.
By Wini Nduta What is natural hair? This is hair that is non-chemically relaxed. these chemicals included texturisers, relaxers or other chemical agents. It is simply hair in its natural state. I love to use Solange as an example: |
