I'm ecstatic! Why? All because the season's changed, and with that change comes time for a new wardrobe. And that means...shopping! I love to shop for clothes and shoes, jewellery and accessories, plus I don't think I know a girl who doesn't love to shop. I like to plan ahead, and a lot of ladies interested in fashion do the same. I start by scouting blogs and various websites to see what is in season and what is trending. I can at least begin to imagine what trending items I would want to shop for that would look good on me. Plus, I know from experience that shopping without an idea of what I want is quite disastrous. One such website you can check out that has all the trendy items this season is Apparel Candy. They have it down to the last detail, so you can shop for entire outfits that coordinate with each other; right from your dress, to nail polish, to lipstick and perfume and so much more. What’s more, they have wholesale clothing; therefore you can shop for as many items you want without being overburdened by cost. Isn’t that great? It also works out perfectly if you are in the business-end of fashion, because purchasing items such as wholesale tops in bulk and having them shipped will be very simple and easy on your pocket. Here are some items already on sale at Apparel Candy: Thanks for stopping by Fab One's!

Conseils beauté! Ahem, excuse my French, but that just means "beauty tips." I recently asked my aunt to share her beauty secrets, because she always looks absolutely great, as you can already see. Here are her special tips. Her Weekly Routine: Once a week, she uses plain Greek yogurt mixed with avocado as a face mask. To make the face mask, use one Avocado and mash it in a bowl until all the lumps are gone. Avocado's help to brighten skin and reduce age spots by increasing the production of collagen. Next, add a spoonful of Greek yogurt and a spoonful of honey. Honey works wonders as it helps soak up impurities from your skin, cures acne, plus soaks up any impurities. Greek yogurt contains natural alpha hydroxy acid, that helps smooth and exfoliate skin. After applying on your skin, leave it in for half an hour then rinse out. Her Daily Routine: She never uses soap on her face, instead she uses Oil of Olay face cloths, which lather like soap when run under water. And, to remove makeup she uses Burt's Bees cucumber cloths which are great for removing heavy makeup. For her whole body, she uses Aveeno body wash orchid scent. To moisturize her skin she uses Oil of Olay complete moisturizer mixed with 2 squirts of Oil of Olay Regenerist serum and 2 drops of Vitamin E oil for her face and neck. At night, she uses Oil of Olay hydrating night cream. Finally, she uses Aveeno fragrance-free lotion for her body and, of course, the ever useful Vaseline for her forearms, hands, legs and ankles. What is your daily beauty routine? Feel free to share.
Thank's for stopping by Fab One's. I have always wanted to write a post about prom, and here it is finally! The prom season is upon us, and although I have surpassed the age to attend a prom, I always want to pass on the excitement I had preparing for my prom. Actually, I attended 3 prom events to be exact, and the best part of them all – the preparation. It was finally an evening to ditch the school uniform and get all dolled up in makeup, the dress I had bought months earlier and my tall heels. OK, but I’ll be honest; the 3 prom events were spread out in a span of 3 years from when I finished my O-Levels until when I completed my A-Levels. Below is the dress I wore to my final year prom. Now, about that dress, Sherry London is offering some pretty huge discounts on their gorgeous dresses so that you can look dolled up for your evening without having to break bank. What are you planning to wear - Will it be a short cocktail dress or a long mermaid gown? What’s your signature style – Is it Urban chic or gothic? Sherry London has the dress to match your style and expectations, take your pick from the several dresses below: With the use of sophisticated fabric and fine detailing, Sherry London prom dress designers have embodied grace and refinement - which is the trend for Prom 2015. Stand out from the crowd, happy shopping!
Thanks for stopping by Fab One's. Bohemian – It’s all about being completely unique and following your artistic nature. The boho-chic, indie or hippie look is not a popular one in Kenya, especially with the conservative fashion market Kenya has. We are used to dressing in urban apparel and rarely will you find a store with a wide selection of fashion styles at affordable prices if we compare us to let's say American stores such as Forever 21. Boho-chic is a style you’ll see celebrities like Vanessa Hudgens, Solange Knowles or Nicole Richie sport easily and look absolutely stunning while doing it. The Boho-chic style is characterized by loose-fitting, colorful clothes and at times lots of jewelry or none at all. The point is to create an original look by drawing style inspiration from the natural elements (earth, wind, air, and fire). The reason the look has always been embraced by artistic people is due to the fact that the style embraces creativity and an indifference to social structures – a feeling of breaking away from the norm. And isn’t this free-thinking nature what artists are all about? Today’s boho-chic look is gradually being embraced by Kenyans, with African prints now being incorporated into boho-chic clothes. Speaking with Brianna Kisia, the designer of Fashion Mountain (a Kenyan bohemian clothing brand), she commented by saying that indie fashion can easily pick in the market. “Though, it’s hard to sell to Kenyans when they want are the same old looks, i.e. peplum tops, bodycon skirts etc. This means that a majority of my market is international when I’m really designing these clothes for Kenyans.” Kenyans need to embrace new styles and forms of dressing to promote various unique Kenyan designers. This way, the Kenyan fashion industry can grow to the point where international celebrities recognize the talent that is here and promote the country as a destination for global events such as Mercedes Benz fashion week. Peace. Love. Harmony, Man!
Thanks for stopping by Fab One's! Beyond the Hype:In Fashion, it's hard to tell what's really real. There is so much hype around everything. So many euphemisms, so many sales gimmicks, and so much "positioning" that to get to what really is going on... that takes some hard looks. This week we have quite a few thought-provoking posts that have us question the very surface of the fashion industry. About diversity, about diversions and about those tricks they use to make us buy.Links à la Mode: February 5th
If you scroll down my Instagram feed it’s no secret that I have two adorable pet cats: Mocha (male) and Minnie (female). It’s about time I blogged about them, and even share some of my tips when it comes to taking care of cats. Tip 1: Before you get a cat, it is important to prepare. Make sure your home is ‘cat-friendly,’ that is, make sure you have a warm area where your cat can sleep, pet food and eating trays, plus a few toys to keep him/her entertained. It is also important to keep a litter-box, depending on how you train your cat, and also where you live e.g. an apartment. My cats always go out and finish their ‘business,’ but they were able to do this er they were more than 9 months old and able to play outside. Tip 2: If you love your furniture/clothes (basically any precious item) so much, restrict the areas in which your cat can access. Cats can get into everything and play with anything they want! Restrict the areas in which your cat can play, and you won’t end up with ripped furniture or cat fur everywhere. Tip 3: Speaking of cat fur, grooming is an important part of raising a cat. Even though they clean themselves, which takes a load off your plate, you still need to brush their fur regularly. If fur gets onto furniture, you can easily remove it using rubber gloves.
Tip 4: What if your cat pee’s on your favorite pair of shoes? There’s nothing worse than the stink of cat urine. To remove the smell, sprinkle a little bit of baking soda to the area (once it is dry). Mix 3/4 cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide with one teaspoon of dish detergent and sprinkle it over the baking soda. Blot the mixture with a paper towel and wait for it to dry. Tip 5: Love your cat! There’s no point in getting a pet if you are not going to love it and give it some attention every now and again. Pets can pick you up when you’re feeling down, and they can also sense when they are not loved, so make sure you have a lot of love to give. Photo's captured by the talented Steve Nelson, make sure you check out his blog too: steveink.blogspot.com Thanks for stopping by Fab One's! “You’re such a sweetheart…” I hear that a lot. Perhaps it’s my smile…or my naturally kind nature... (I know a friend who will laugh at that last statement). I know it’s most likely my face that portrays that sweet, caring and kind-type of persona, so with this blogpost I had planned to own the look. The light pink A-line skirt was the highlight of the look, especially since pink depicts innocence and youthfulness. I offset the pink with a black top and black pumps so that the bright color could stand out more. Did I mention that I thrifted the skirt too? Hell yeah! I also have to say a big thank you to my good friend and pro-photographer, Steve who passed by and took the fab images :-) You can check out more of his photography at steveink.blogspot.com. I hit the ground running by finally (!) buying a domain for the blog. I can now officially welcome TheFabDiaries.com. I’m so excited, especially since this has taken quite a few months to plan and lots of work too. The larger picture will soon take shape, and I will involve you (my fabulous reader) a lot more too. Thanks for stopping by Fab One’s.
"We've been taught a woman's body will cause men to sin. We're told that if a woman shows too much of her body men will do stupid things. Let's be clear: A woman's body is nor dangerous to you. It will not make you do stupid things. If you do stupid things, it is because you chose to do stupid things." Nate Pyle~How to see a woman: A conversation between a father and son. Above is a quote I shared along with a photo to show my solidarity with Kenyans who want the world to know it does not matter what a woman wears, judging her or worse still, striping her will never be moral or ethical. A video went viral recently, it depicted a woman being striped on the streets of Nairobi because apparently her skirt was too short. I chose not to fully watch the video, because I've experienced a smiliar scenario 3 years ago with a group of my friends.
On holiday in Mombasa, we were casually walking downtown to the bus station to book our bus tickets back to the city. A group of idle men decided that my friends skirt was too short and decided to tag and pull her to rip her clothes off. Of course in the shuffle of the mob, our handbags were nearly stolen, but we luckily managed to hide in the safety of the bus station office. However, a massive mob had already formed outside trying to get a glance of my friend with the short skirt. The manager of the bus office was not happy, especialy since the mob could very easily have broken the office windows and barged in (a scenario that has happened before during such instances). Luckily, we managed to hail a taxi, cover my friend up in kangaa's and the taxi managed to get away after a brief stint with the mob. Women should not have to worry about whether they will be attacked if they wear a short skirt or dress. Who is to say what is short or too short? Changing a backward mindset is not an easy task, as there will always be hooligans and idlers with nothing better to do but prey on whoever they please. Perhaps with the #MyDressMyChoice campaign, awareness can begin and hopefully the right people will receive and understand the message. Thanks for stopping by Fab One's. When I was prepping to take pictures for this post, I listened to Jimi Hendrix's "Are you experienced" track. It helped me channel my inspiration for the clothes and the energy I really needed to put the post up. The thing is, as much as I love blogging, it can be draining - just the thought process alone that goes on before a new post is up. Either way, I am very happy to finally put up these photo's! The gorgeous top I am wearing was a gift from a designer friend; Brianna Kisia. I love how loose fitting it is - God knows I need it under the hot Kenyan sun. The print and the cut mirrors my personality. I paired the top with high-waisted short-shorts (which were originally jeans that I cut up for the fun of it.) Plus, at some point I didn't feel like wearing shoes since God has blessed us with beautiful, soft, green grass which feels fantastic bare-footed. I also felt like I was channeling my indie/boho side. Most probably because of the top and the location of my photoshoot. Brianna's personal style is boho-chic too, which is refreshing compared to other looks Kenyan women wear. For more stunning and fashion forward clothes by Brianna and her label Fashion Mountain, you can check out her Facebook page and website. You can also check her out at Greenhouse Mall on Ngong Road every Friday. Thanks for stopping by Fab One's!
